A New Home for Denver Magic – March 7th, 2019
After a 3-month search, the Denver Magic Show has found a new home in the Avenue Grill’s historic El Dorado Room. Beginning Thursday, March 7, 2019 William Rader and Gregg Tobo will bring their professional-caliber magic back to Denver. The show was put on hiatus when the theater they were renting closed abruptly in January. Fortunately, they were able to find a new space just a few blocks from their old venue keeping them squarely in the Uptown neighborhood.
The building, which was built in 1924, was originally home to ground level shops with apartments above. In 1988, it became the Avenue Grill (a traditional San Francisco-style neighborhood restaurant) and the private dining room was christened the El Dorado Room — named after the former apartments.
At the new Denver Magic Show, seating will be limited to 36 attendees to allow audiences a more intimate experience. “The most astonishing magic I’ve ever seen was performed up close and in person. Not on television. Not on the big stage,” says Tobo. “That’s why we’re excited to move our show to the Avenue Grill.” The move offered an opportunity to interact with the audience in a setting where the magic could be witnessed up close.
Whether it be for trade shows or corporate events, Rader and Tobo have honed their skills performing magic for grown-up audiences and now draw substantial fees for their services. But the idea of maintaining a show of their own was compelling. “Usually, my job is to support someone else’s agenda,” says Rader. “To help them pitch their product or to bring energy to their sales meeting. But to have a show of our own – where we are the main event – that has been really fun.”
Having successfully produced 7 months of shows in a 99-seat theater, Rader and Tobo and excited to produce a more upscale and exclusive show. “With magic being featured more and more on television, we’ve set high standards for ourselves,” says Tobo. “We hope that the move to the Avenue Grill will take us to the next level.”
